I moved here in 1998. There was very little traffic on Florida Park Drive then. Palm Coast became a city in 1999. Since then the traffic on Florida Park Drive has increased at an alarming rate. This increase is now harming the health of those that live here. When I moved here in 1998 I was in good health and had an active exercise program. In 2005 I noticed a dramatic change in my health which caused me concern. That year, the day before Thanksgiving, I had heart surgery, two stents put in my arteries. I started looking at my diet, my exercise routine, and yes my environment. It was not until 2012 when I started having more health issues did I discover the effects that traffic noise could have on my health. Just like some heart attacks are called the silent killer, traffic noise can be called a loud killer. I am awakening several times by speeding cars or large truck passing through the neighborhood late at night or in the early morning hours. City Officials have ignored my requests to help protect my health by reducing the excessive traffic. Because your environment will kill you over a long period of time and is very difficult to prove, City Officials feel they have a pass to ignore requests to protect your health. I assume hoping they'll be out of the office of accountability or retired when your health declines. However, today there are numerous scientific studies, which I furnished links to City Officials that prove what excessive traffic in residential neighborhoods will do to health. I have requested meetings to discuss the health issues and have been ignored by the City Officials.
I discovered that most of my neighbors were unaware of the affects excessive traffic can have on children, elderly, and adults. I decided to educate my neighbors and City Officials about the harm of excessive traffic. Though it is a role of government to inform residents of health hazards, our City Officials are silent; in fact it seems they don't want you to know what might be killing you. No City Official has yet discussed with me health hazards caused by excessive traffic and probably has not discussed with any other resident on Florida Park Drive. *** Thus FLPKDR.com was born. *** What excessive traffic has produced on Florida Park Drive:
1) Residents' failing health from traffic fumes/noise 2) Uncontrollable speeding can be seen every day 3) Road rage; following to close, obscene gestures, blinking lights, blowing horn, yelling, passing & cutting you off 4) Speeding up to deny exit from driveway 5) Loud noise from the traffic & radios 6) Fumes from the traffic 7) Danger of being hit while doing yard work 8) Falling property values 9) Service personnel refusing service because of the traffic
